If you feel like you’d rather some alone time, sneak away to read in the garden or drive 10-minutes to a cafe in downtown Byron Bay. Thoughtfully designed for the entire group, Soma uses an open-concept layout to create spaces for gatherings, like the lengthy dining table inside. On the outside, a cluster of smaller bistro tables creates a space where the entire group can get together, but break away for more intimate moments. The main floor is outlined by floor-to-ceiling windows, framing beautiful hillside views. The decor is modern, completely clutter-free, yet warm wood tones give a sense of home. Spend lazy afternoons by the freshwater pool, mornings working out in the yoga-dome, and nights stargazing from a lounge chair. When you’re ready to hit the beach, drive 20-minutes to Cape Byron. In the morning, the surf is legendary, and lessons are easy to find. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, check out some of the dive sites along the reef. After, snap a few pictures of the iconic lighthouse at the edge of Cape Byron State Conservation Park. If you’re traveling between June and November, pack a picnic and find a lookout spot along the coast, you might just spot a humpback whale or two. The Soma Abode is additional accommodation nestled in the bamboo forest, offering a lovely private area away from the main house, but short enough distance to walk between the two. The shared room features 3 single beds, bathroom, living area, kitchen and massive sun deck for reading and yoga. The room can be arranged for couples, with a king size bed. Architecturally intriguing, this villa encapsulates the laid-back, beachy attitude of life Down Under. Located in Byron Bay, a quaint coastal town, it’s ideal for an elevated, seaside escape. Chestnut siding on the dwelling’s façade complements the wood-panelled north-facing deck. Stroll to the café across the street in the morning to pick up a flat white and avocado toast—two local delicacies. Towering ceilings create a lofty ambiance with an abundance of daylight. A clean colour palette exudes modern minimalism. The interior living spaces seamlessly connect through an open-concept plan, while fully retractable doors open onto the terrace, establishing an effortless harmony between them both. Potted plants punctuate various areas of each room, bringing the outdoors in. Glossy gunmetal floors flow beneath an array of slate-hued furnishings for a contemporary aesthetic. At the side of the patio, fragrant flowers and mini tropical palms flourish in a small, landscaped garden. A glass partition separates the loggia from the edge of the pool, allowing an unobstructed view. Swim a few laps in the cerulean water before warming up in the steamy hot tub. When the stars illuminate the night sky, pop open a bottle of chilled champagne and gaze up at the glittering galaxies while laying back in the sunken lounge. Inside, plump sofas provide ample space for the whole crew to gather around and watch a movie or simply converse about the day’s excursions. Ocean Farm

Feel the warmth from the crackling fire while you gaze out over the moonlit ocean at this modern farmhouse in Gerringong. Situated 5-minutes from town, and just over an hour from Sydney, this coastal villa enjoys complete seclusion. Wander the on-site trails, explore 200 acres of rainforest, and meet grazing livestock on your way. Follow the coastal walking track, and you’ll be in town in no time. Your surfboard won’t look out of place leaning against the wood-post fence around this farm. In fact, just beyond that fence, a grass track leads to Werri Beach. After a morning swim, head back to Ocean Farm for espresso on the terrace. Work on your tan in a sun lounger by the pool’s edge. Or, enjoy the sea breeze from inside while you catch a rugby game on the projector screen. For lunch, fire up the barbecue in the courtyard and play a round of foosball while you’re waiting for the burgers to get that perfect char. Later, sip local wine while you watch the sunset over endless sea views. The point breaks at either end of Werri Beach are perfect for first-time surfers. In between, a sandy stretch of calm waters awaits for family swimming. And, the shops on the beach’s edge are known for their delicious fish and chips.
