Comfy bed for better sleep

The room-darkening shades and extra bedding are loved by guests.
On a bold Atlantic headland uniquely surrounded by a magnificent mile-long off-shore reef, Orchard Point is an unparalleled paradise of secluded serenity. The artfully renovated 19th Century sea captain's haven sits atop a long shoreward meadow fringed in wild apple and spruce, and affords guests spectacular ocean vistas from every window. Just 6 miles east of the historic port town of Shelburne along Nova Scotia's scenic Lighthouse Route. Near beaches/shops/museums/theater/restaurants/festivals

The space
The design sensitively blends old and new architectural elements, art and furnishings to create an environment rich in character, charm, texture, and comfort. The pallet of the home is a simple harmony of warm wood tones and crisp whitewashed plaster with calming ocean touches throughout. The ground floor has a living room, dining room, custom soapstone and wood kitchen with breakfast dinette, laundry, and full bath with bespoke stone and tile walk-in shower. The upper level has a full bath with clawfoot soaking tub and two bedrooms to sleep four guests (master bedroom has a queen sized bed, plus a full-size lounging futon. The second bedroom has one full size bed).

The furnishings have been carefully selected with the health of our planet and our guests in mind (i.e. low or zero VOC paints, primarily natural cotton or wool fibers/linens/upholstery/carpeting, custom wood and stone surfaces and details, chemical-free gardening/lawn care, etc).

This awe-inspiring setting was celebrated by writer/poet/naturalist Howard T. Walden’s Anchorage Northeast: the story of one man’s quest for the unspoiled bounties of nature and their discovery on a stretch of Nova Scotia’s coast.
“From the reef’s seaward front, comes that distant and muted pulse throbbing as always on the flank of the continent, the water-shrouded detonations and the scouring wash, the surf.” H. T. Walden

Let the simplicity and natural rhythms of this South Shore paradise restore your inner balance and peace.

Neighbourhood highlights

Orchard Point Cottage is located on a bold Atlantic headland just six miles East of the historic port town of Shelburne on Nova Scotia's scenic South Shore. Close enough to town for shopping, restaurants, and visits to the museums, theater and festival venues; the cottage is far enough away to guarantee seclusion.

Standing atop a long shoreward meadow, Orchard Point Cottage offers dramatic ocean vistas and wildlife viewings from every window - the welcoming sparkle of pristine Jordan Bay to the north and east, the thrill of open Atlantic surf to the south, and a South Shore picture-postcard cove to the west. This awe-inspiring setting was celebrated by writer, poet and naturalist Howard T. Walden's beautifully written "Anchorage Northeast: The story of one man's quest for the unspoiled bounties of nature and their discovery on a stretch of Nova Scotian Coast."
