Family-friendly vacation rentals in Arco da Calheta

Leonel and his wife have created a cluster of wonderful apartments born out of absolute passion and love for the region and his family’s heritage. My wife and I stayed in the 3-bedroom apartment with its own private roof terrace overlooking the outdoor pool. The accommodation is located amongst the towering lush green mountain scape. The kitchen is really well equipped with an oven, microwave, hobs and double sink. A stunning location & apartment. Beware that no paper products can be flushed down the toilet, so there’s a separate bin for this…

We were traveling as a group of friends — 9 of us. The property was amazing — privately located just on the edge of the cliff with a beautiful infinity swimming pool that could be heated for an extra price. Maria and Carlos are very lovely people and brilliant hosts. We have gotten all necessary instructions and were warmly welcomed, while our privacy was valued and we saw no one within our 1-week stay that helped us feel at home. The location is terrific: we enjoyed a scenic hike down to the ocean, and this part of Madeira has probably the best weather on an island. There is also a beautiful waterfall in a close distance and you can hear it as well as the ocean from your bedroom. Although everything was worth the money, some parts of the house may need a facelift: the beamer was too old so it was hard to watch movies, bedrooms and bathrooms also were a little too cold and outdated and lacked home feeling. But overall it was a great experience, and I would definitely recommend it ❤

Leonel is super friendly and helpful. The apartment is clean and in the quiet area. It was hard to leave, especially the SPA and swimming pool :( Big parking space, highly recommended!

Super nice and well-equipped villa. Even for the first breakfast, the landlords provided toast, coffee tapes, tea and milk. The pool and the terrace with wonderful views of the sea are a dream. The location is perfect, close to several large supermarket and good restaurants. Funchal can be reached in a few minutes by car or by bus. We loved it and can 100% recommend the place.

Our stay was amazing, the hostess was attentive from the beginning. When we arrived at the apartment, we were greeted with some delicious treats. The apartment is very well located and was extremely clean and tidy. I highly recommend it. Thank you very much Zélia! We had a great time on Madeira Island! We hope to return soon!

We had a great stay at Paula's place. She responded very quickly to messages and welcomed us herself and showed us around. She also gave us a list of various recommendations- both for places to visit and very good restaurants. She also helped us get a good deal for a car rental. The apartment itself was super well equipped. Paula had even left for us beach towels and a fresh bag of coffee which we found a nice gesture. The location is very good, close to cafes, a big supermarket and down the stairs to the beach. Yes it's steep to get there but this is Madeira! There's not much to dislike. Maybe the bed was a bit hard and narrow but we still slept quite well tired after long days. The water in the pool was also rather on a cold side but it didn't stop the kids from swimming every day.

The apartment was spotless. Showers were great and beds comfy. Well equipped and a beautiful view of the hill from the living room and bedroom. The apartment was a 15 mins walk uphill from town and is on a dual carriageway which was noisy from early on weekday mornings even with the doors closed. This may be an issue if you’re light sleepers. Betty was a superstar!! Excellent recommendations and communication throughout our stay and went out of her way to drop beach towels to us.

We had a wonderful stay at this apartment! Duarte was very welcoming and took the time to explain everything to us at check-in. He was always available to provide quick and helpful information whenever we needed it. The apartment was spotless and well-equipped with all the necessary utilities. Having a washing machine was a great bonus for us. The location was perfect—well connected to Funchal, with plenty of car rental options nearby. The supermarket and restaurants were conveniently close, and the free parking spot was a huge plus. We didn’t have to worry about parking at all, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Overall, everything was smooth, and we had a fantastic time on this beautiful Island.

Perfect location! Convenient and functional apartment

Quiet and peaceful, but close to everything you could want. Rodrigo's place is extremely clean and feels more like a home than an accommodation. The kitchen has everything you need, and Rodrigo is more than happy to help if there's anything more. Located just up the hill from Ponta do Sol, you can't get a much better location on Madeira. We stayed for a month, and a highlight for "long stays" was being able to get fresh, local organic produce from the Farmers Market in Ponta do Sol (Rodrigo can help walk you through this process, though it is simple). The space feels large (especially the bedrooms) and the view from the balcony is incredible. Can't recommend the stay more.

We stayed at this property for the third time: the location right by the sea is fantastic and unbeatable as a starting point for many hikes in the immediate vicinity. The apartment is equipped with everything you need. The sofa in the living room should perhaps be renewed or the covers washed, because there are signs of wear and tear. The outdoor area is definitely a clear recommendation.

We had a great stay and the location is sensational. There was everything you needed and we were also set up the travel cot before arrival.

One of our best AirBnBs ever. Exactly as advertise, Sofia's place is large, comfortable and beautifully situated. Jardim do Mar is our favourite spot on our favorite island. Would return to Sofia's place again and again - unfortunately next year renovation is planned but the current house is wonderful. Sofia is extremely helpful and responsive - I don't remember ever waiting more than 15 mins for a response. Our 5 weeks stay flew by. Highest level of recommendation.

We stayed at this place for one week and had a wonderful time. The house is in the middle of a small banana plantation, and upon our arrival, we were greeted with a bunch of local bananas and a mango from Veronica. The beach is within walking distance. The road leading to the house is a quiet, private, local route that takes you through two tunnels and past some waterfalls, adding to the charm and excitement of the place. The house was well-equipped with everything we needed. Veronica is an amazing host—very responsive and always helpful. We definitely recommend this place for a stay!

We had a wonderful week stay at Ana Paula’s house in Porto Da Cruz. The house is perfect and the kids loved swimming in the pool in February. The location is fantastic with lots to do nearby. Ana Paula is a great host and was always very attentive. We would return without hesitation!

This was an exceptional villa and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The outside area is second to none with the most beautiful views. The sitting areas are varied and very comfortable indeed. We had a wonderful break there for three weeks. Filomena was extremely responsive and helpful in the run up to, as well as during our stay. The villa is ideally located with just one steep hill to climb and is a 10-15 minute walk from the old town. We would definitely consider rebooking this villa.

Carla and Bruno are great hosts. We were greeted by Bruno when arrived. Bruno explained everything about the house and gave us a lot recommendations about activities and restaurants on the island. I can highly recommend Carla's and Bruno's house to other guests. Thanks a lot for everything!

Chayanne is an attentive and kind host who went out of his way to make our stay extra comfortable, and gave us useful recommendations for our trip. The flat is peaceful and spacious and has everything you need; great selection of crockery, knives and pans, and one could easily stay a month here comfortably. There is a decent sized pool and a cosy balcony to enjoy the views. I highly recommend this place and I hope to come back here next time!

This was a delightful place to stay. Very private and so many facilities for a small place. Beautiful views, swimming pool and honesty bar. A total hidden gem.

The best Airbnb stay we've been to. We were two families, 10 people in total including big teenagers, and there was plenty of room for everyone. The house is a charming old villa, with heated pool, views and walking distance to the city center. We couldn't have wished for more. Antonio is the perfect host, was quick and helpful as shortly before our holiday there were issues with our booking (which we were to blame for ourselves). Top recommendations from here.

A comfortable house, in a quiet location, but still close to shops and restaurants. Elvio was a great host, very flexible and responsive. Everything was very clean upon arrival, a really spacious house. The beautiful sunny terrace, the great pool and the large shady BBQ area made it a perfect week.

Very quiet area in a rural village, away from the big tourism. Cottage with large garden where you could sit quietly in several places depending on how the sun stood. Great views, large and equipped kitchen. Easy to explore the island by car!
