Family-friendly vacation rentals in West Virginia

My boyfriend and I loved staying at Laura's Rustic Memories cabin. It's a perfect cozy getaway for two looking for peace, seclusion and beautiful surrounding. We loved sitting in the hot tub and looking up at the stairs and hiking nearby Swallow Falls. Laura was a great host -- communicates and made sure we were okay to get home on snowy roads. I recommended four-wheel or all wheel drive if coming in the winter and an HTMI chord if wanting to watch something beyond basic cable. This was an ideal place to ring in 2025 and we are eager to come again in the fall.

My wife and I had a wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend get away at Rustic Ravines. Directions were really great took us right to the place. It’s was beautifully tucked away in the woods and very well maintained. The cabin was clean, beautiful and very private. We had a wonderful stay and especially enjoyed the hot tub! When we left Joe went above and beyond. Big thunderstorms caused flooding blocking us in and Joe went out of his way to find someone that escorted us and someone else out and helped us get home safely. All in all this was a wonderful experience and we certainly would come back again! Highly recommend!

An amazing property. Very peaceful. Hot tub A+. Heating stove in living room was very effective and nice to quickly warm up inside after a night time hot tub soak on the patio. Easy access to all directions and in the gorge. Friendly check in. The only ‘issue’ was the comfort of the mattress, but that’s a personal detail/preference and very hard to please every single person. Sharon’s home was peaceful, quiet, private, and beautiful. Need I mention spacious? We didn’t realize there were two bedrooms with queen beds, plus a children’s room with bunk beds. The deck had a wonderful view of the valley and hills beyond it through the trees, the kitchen was well-stocked and fun to cook in, the furniture was stylish but comfy, and the bathrooms were spacious and pristine. Truly a wonderful space!! We drove in two cars: one with AWD and one without. Neither of us had trouble getting up and down the hill despite some ice/snow on the bend. The driveway is somewhat steep but not more than 1/4 mile long and looked walkable if needed. We were intimidated by the other reviews but found it far less intimidating in person. We recommend bringing your own wood for the fireplace/hot tub as a back up in case the wood provided doesn’t start. There are no neighbors visible from the property. We were delighted to have such a private and quiet space to relax in!

This property is amazing! Our family found it to be the perfect getaway to play board games and watch the many deer pass through the woods. If you are looking for something quiet that feels like home, this is the place! We would definitely love to come back!

This was my second time staying here and it was as lovely as the last time. Beautiful home, very peaceful.

This house, which I have stayed at 5 different times, is my-go-to for when I am planning to do hikes at Lost River State Park as it is a 10m drive to the park and only about 5 minute drives to places where I can get food. The home is nice and clean and has a nice deck where I can sit out and drink my noon coffee. And the host is great- accommodated my requests and responded to my questions in a very speedy fashion.

Sherry‘s place was exactly what we needed! Having to travel across country and needing a clean place to stay that accepted our kitty and mini doodle, it has been hard in the past to find anything available at all. We will definitely be back and stay again the next time we travel! I was also very appreciative that the accommodations did not smell like pets have been there before. It was very clean and did not have any pet odor. The place was very quaint and comfortable for the two of us and was exactly what we needed. It was reasonably priced which is important to us.

we loved our stay here! The house was a cozy, with plenty of space for us and our two kids. The board games were a hit! Location was perfect- easy 10 minutes to Timberline, 5 minutes to Davis. Laura was a great host- super responsive and even quickly took care of mailing us something we left behind! we'll definitely stay here again

Great location for visiting the area and fascinated by the historic elements of the house. That said, loved the gas fireplace during this winter stay!

This is the second time that I have stayed in Emily’s property in Hendricks. I liked the downstairs apartment even more than the upstairs one. The cost is very reasonable and the spaces are very comfortable. The Allegheny Trail is right next to the building.

We stayed at Hilary's place for a second Christmas and again the place delivered. So much space for everyone, accommodated our dogs, well-equipped kitchen, pool table for hours of friendly competition, paths to walk, close to town yet a great view of the stars, communicative and responsive hosts, and on and on. We would certainly stay again in the future if that is possible. Highly recommend.

Friends and family members rented several cabins at Black Bear for a wonderful weekend! Joan’s description warns that AWD is needed at this time of year—and it is. 🤪. Maintenance at Black Bear was extremely responsive when one of our group had difficulty getting out of the resort due to snow/ice. Nice to have the covered back porch to take off snowy wet clothes/boots.

We had a great time and the check in process was seamless. Keith was proactive and very responsive.

My wife and I needed a trip away from the city for the long holiday weekend where we could enjoy some good activity in peaceful surroundings with our dog. This cozy pedestal cabin in Black Bear Resort was just what we were looking for. Check in was easy by picking up the keys at the resort lodge. The place had everything we needed to a cook a couple nights for ourselves, including the gas grill on the deck. The wall-mounted 4K flatscreen TV with Roku let us relax after three active days out and about in Canaan Valley while we listened to the thunderstorms roll over the mountains each evening. This would certainly be a fine place for folks (especially with kids -- there were two sets of bunk beds in the loft) to use a base for their WV adventures any time of year!

This was our second stay at Janel's place and it was just as enjoyable as the first time. We loved the fireplace and views from the A frame windows. The hot tub wasn't working unfortunately, but things happen and Janel was communicative about it. Had a great weekend regardless. Also love that Janel is accommodating of dogs. Our fur babies were happy to join us on our getaway.

Very comfortable home. Well laid out for many to enjoy together but still have private time. Kitchen exceptionally equipped.

Incredibly grateful for this home and for the KOA next to it! We knew we were booking a home with lots of bedrooms a hot tub (the most important things!) but we had no idea it offered so much more. A working fireplace when we got snowed in, a KOA with plenty of activities literally next door, a stunning walking path that we took through the snow when we got snowed in, and an incredibly kind crew who helped us get our cars un-stuck. If I had to be anywhere during a snowstorm, it would be here. And if I had any questions, the KOA was there next door to answer them. Super easy. We were walking distance to tubing, a six minute drive from historic downtown. We just have to come back when the weather is nicer to take advantage of the mini golf!

Second time we have stayed and have enjoyed each. Large farm house, is starting to show its age but that adds to the character. Pool and hot tub worked perfectly, Only 6 miles from Fayetteville. Great place for a large group on a rafting adventure.

Gwen’s condo was fantastic - the perfect spot for a weekend getaway. The condo was clean, homey, and stocked with the essentials. Gwen and Alan were extremely helpful and communicative - they made everything a breeze. It was great to be right next to night skiing with fresh snow. Will have to come back!
