Street Trees of Seattle Walking Tour

Seattle is home to one of the nation’s most diverse urban tree collections—double the East Coast’s average and triple the Midwest’s. Join me, a local data nerd, naturalist and bestselling author, for a stroll through Capitol Hill as we explore this charming neighborhood and its notable street trees. • We’ll begin our adventure at the locally beloved Macrina Bakery on 19th Avenue, where you’ll receive a map I’ve illustrated of the eight different trees we'll visit, along with a brief overview. • On our tree walk through the beautiful residential streets of Capitol Hill, we’ll stop at each tree to learn how to identify it and distinguish it from other species. • You’ll have a chance to see notable trees, including the city’s widest maple street tree (a native bigleaf maple), the widest sugar and silver maple street trees, and the widest giant sequoia street tree in Seattle. You’ll leave with a renewed sense of wonder, a mile of nature therapy, and a newfound appreciation for the more than 700 tree species that adorn the Emerald City. Please note: Our tour covers approximately one mile along sidewalks and lasts about 90 minutes. Be sure to bring a rain jacket, water, and wear comfortable walking shoes, rain or shine.

Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary

Every parrot has a story. You’ll learn all about our rainbow-colored rescues in Kona’s only parrot sanctuary. We’ll start with our mission: to give every displaced parrot a nutritious diet, large space to fly, and a safe place to interact with other parrots (and people). Next, we'll take a walk around the sanctuary, where you can get to know the range of personalities of cockatoos, lovebirds, macaws, and more species. Throughout the tour, you will have many photo opportunities, especially with our well-trained parrots. Other things to note: Wear casual clothes, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and bring a camera. Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary is also home to two rescue dogs, two Holstein cows and two sulcata tortoise. While we like to keep our group sizes small to enhance a personal experience, we are open to hosting larger family/friend groups with more than six individuals.
