Cottage vacation rentals in Outer Banks

Thanks again for another relaxing stay at “Breakin’ Wind”! It’s been 5 years since our last trip here and we loved coming back to Terra’s place. We especially loved the hot tub, shelling and walks on the beach and seeing the horses again.

Very nice for a girls weekend get away. The neighborhood was quiet, and conveniently located to the things we wanted to do.

Easy Breeze is a wonderful place to stay. Alex has made sure that even the smallest detail has been taken to make your stay exactly what you are looking for. This is our 2nd visit and while we were there, we booked our next vacation for a week in October! It's perfect if you want peace, quiet, fishing, kayaking, and many other water sports. We had a great family stay here-the location is great for quick walks to the beach and the neighborhood was quiet and perfect for bikes rides!

This Airbnb was the prefect place for a weekend getaway for my fiancé and I. We both have pretty hectic schedules this year between work, moving house and wedding planning! This home provided us with privacy, comfort and near by food and activities to enjoy during our stay. We want to thank the host's of this Airbnb for allowing us to relax and enjoy a moment away from our busy lives.

Pictures don't really do it justice. It is much brighter and lighter inside than shown on Airbnb. Very cute house, would consider it again for future bookings. Back yard is an oasis and the hot tub is a perk!

We have stayed at this air bnb before and we loved it last year for valentines and my wife’s birthday weekend. Whitney remembered us and we booked it immediately. We love this location in kill devil hills due to the location to all our favorites restaurants and shopping and you could not ask for a nicer cleaner, just roomy cozy place. Come back from a day of shopping and restaurants and private back fence yard and wonderful hot tub. Just awesome. Wonderful host!

Perfect “get away” for our group of 5 and puppy. The location was close enough to restaurants, and shops, but far enough to get away from the busy part of Nags Head. The house was beautiful! We loved how much it felt like a home! Check in was easy, and the house was very clean. It had everything we needed and more! We didn’t plan on cooking during this trip, but the kitchen had everything, in case we did. The view was great, and at night, you could see every star in the sky. The beach was just steps away and beach chairs were already provided. Hot tub, outdoor shower, smart TVs in every room…they even had a crate with a pillow made up for our 19 pound puppy! There are so many great things to say about The Swingin’ Dinghy! We’d love to stay here again, the next time we visit Nags Head! Thank you so much Ashley & Bridget! You are awesome hosts! We appreciate how responsive you were when we had any questions!

Had a great stay at Maria and Steve's! Place was clean and as listed. Only tricky part was the house is across the highway from the beach access which meant having to drive and find parking or cross a very busy road.

Our stay at the Flat Top exceeded our expectations. Unassuming from the outside, you are transported when you walk in to a place that feels like home. From the extremely clean and inviting indoors to the spacious outdoor fenced-in area and the lively screened in porch, this is at the top of our list as one of our favorite stays. Not to mention, how close it was to the beach. We woke up daily to see the sunrise. We cooked in the kitchen and had all the amenities and accouterments needed. This place is perfect for pets and our dogs enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Dustin has been very responsive throughout and even let us know right away after we checked out that we'd forgotten something behind. Great attention to detail in the place and so many little nice touches to make you feel like home. Throughly enjoyed our time and would absolutely come back again.

Awesome location for exploring the entire Outer Banks! This place is the perfect combination of comfort and convenience. The house has everything you need for a fun get away; beach gear, bikes, fishing poles, crab pod, etc. We loved having the “starter set” of toilet paper, dish soap. Laundry soap and trash bags. It was just what we needed to settle in quickly until we had time to run to the store to restock. The yard was a great size and our pup had plenty of room to run. The neighborhood was quiet and had great side streets for walking and bike riding. We loved that we could quickly get to stores, landmarks, beaches, and parks. One note: the windows are totally see through at night-use the curtains. In the morning, the birds throw themselves at the windows at their reflections. It sounds like someone is knocking on the doors or windows- it’s just the birds, LOL, and if you open the curtains you get an awesome close up view of all of the birds and squirrels. We loved our stay!

We had a great stay. Home was very clean and in a great location just a short walk from the beach. Also included plenty if towels, beach chairs, an umbrella, and other beach activities which was super nice. Highly recommend.

Even with all the rain during our beach week, we had a great time at this dog-friendly cottage. The screened-in porches made catching up with family outside bug free. Nice pool, corn hole and hammock were nice to have as well. Short walk down quiet unpaved street to beautiful beach. So many restaurants & activities nearby!

The bungalow was just perfect for my husband and I and our dog! Quick walk to the beach, which was so beautiful during the Spring! Fun restaurant just a 2 minute walk from the cottage! We didn’t cook but there was a full oven/range and just about everything you’d need to prepare meals. The hosts are very proactive and included great recommendations and instructions throughout the bungalow. As noted in the description, it is a small beach bungalow. Great for couples, especially if you like to vacation with your dog!

This was the perfect dog friendly place we were looking for. The enclosed deck and yard allowed to let the dogs out and run around the place without issue. The house itself is pretty close drive wise to everything. Plenty of space as well. Would definitely come back here again especially if we brought our dogs.

The OBX treehouse was a great place to stay in OBX! Short walk to the beach, nice updates and very clean upon arrival. We very much enjoyed our stay!

Beautiful place! Close to the beach and the main road. My family enjoyed some of the activities the hosts have available like the outdoor fireplace and the bicycles. Definitely will book with them again.

Greg’s listing is just as described. Very comfortable and cozy with everything we needed for a full week at the beach. Beds were comfortable and everything was so clean and fresh. The kitchen had anything we needed to make our own meals. The fenced in yard for our pup was a real benefit! He loved it! Sitting on the front porch early in the mornings, sipping coffee with that good salt air and hearing the waves was incredibly peaceful and beautiful. Beach access is just across the street. We really enjoyed our stay! Thank you for a much needed break from the business of a full life! We’d like to come back and stay again!

I would rate this 6/5 stars. We were a group of 9 friends who stayed at the place and every one of us loved the cottage. It’s right next to the beach with a nice porch area. It has a swimming pool right next to the cottage. The host was really responsive and also kind enough to get us extra amenities in the cold night. Would stay here every time I visit the place. Only complaint was there was no lock to one of the restrooms. Other than that there were no issues. Thank you!!

We had an amazing stay at Katie's cottage! The cottage was cozy, clean, and in a fantastic location. It's tucked slightly away from the main drag, offering a private feel and is a quick drive to the beach. It's also conveniently located down the street from Nags Head Woods Preserve, where we enjoyed a long hike. Katie's on-site guidebook led us to several local restaurants, coffee shops and Jennette's Pier where we saw about a dozen manta rays! Finally, Katie was incredibly accommodating when we decided to extend our trip by a day. Overall she is such a sweet and a fantastic host. We would absolutely stay at Katie's again, and can't recommend her cottage enough!

My first trip to outer banks since I was a child some 50 years ago. Place was just as described, and Joseph seems to be a first class guy. Very responsive to messages, usually in minutes. Place was well equipped (beach chairs, coolers, surfing / snorkeling gear, etc..) You could basically show up and only need to buy food & your beverage of choice. Our place was at the smaller end of the scale, which was exactly what we wanted. Well worth the price, and when we go back, I’ll certainly be reaching out to Joseph. Also, regarding the horses, not a single day went by without us seeing them, especially driving along the beach at night. I’m convinced we saw them more than the folks on the paid tours. One word of advice: Bring a capable 4 wheel drive vehicle! You’ll see nothing but sand & water for miles once you leave the blacktop.

This historic beach cottage is in a peaceful, beautiful neighborhood. It’s centrally located, so it was a quick ride to visit friends in Duck, as well as my favorite restaurants in Kitty Hawk, KDH, and Nags Head. I was traveling with my dog, and Ginger had toys/treats ready for her after our long drive from Connecticut. I will definitely book again next time I’m in town.

Swell Life is a great place to stay on the OBX. We will definitely be back. We really enjoyed being able to take our pup, he loves the beach. Swell life has everything you need to enjoy your vacation.

We stayed at John and Kerry's house during Thanksgiving weekend. The house is wonderful and very comfortable with all the amenities. We watched movies, played games, and cooked a lot and the house has everything one needs for all of that. Beds and linen are comfortable. It feels like being home. The house is in front of the historic Mather Vineyard and it is wonderful to be able to walk around the neighbor. A great stay that is highly recommended.
