At the very end of East Ragged Island Road begins the half-mile driveway to Black Point Cottage, a charming home on its own private 70 acre ocean front peninsula. Designed to take full advantage of its extraordinary location, this tranquil retreat offers unparalleled ocean views, including Gull Rock Lighthouse. Venture along the inland trails to pick blueberries and explore the more than two miles of private coastline.

The space
Black Point Cottage is a lovely, bright home that features an open-concept living and dining room with a large well equipped kitchen complete with fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher. The living room is inviting with comfortable furnishings, a piano and a decorative wood stove.

There is a TV to watch movies on, a stereo for music or if you want, you can enjoy making your own music on the cottage piano. Black Point Cottage is also equipped with high speed internet to stay in touch.

It is perfect for a holiday with extended family or a gathering of friends. The cottage sleeps 8 people in 4 bedrooms. There are two bedrooms upstairs: the master bedroom has a king size bed, while the other room has two twin beds. Downstairs is another set of two bedrooms: one with a queen size bed and the other with 2 twin beds. A spiral staircase connects the main floor to the bedrooms upstairs (there is an exterior stairs from the deck to the master bedroom for those who may be uncomfortable using a spiral stairs). There are two full 4 piece bathrooms in the house along with laundry facilities.

Outside is a large south facing wooden deck that overlooks the garden. There is a path that leads to the shoreline. From there you can walk for miles.

Guest access
The entire house and grounds are yours to enjoy. Please make yourself feel at home. There is BBQ (propane) on the deck and the kitchen is well equipped and stocked with all that you would need for cooking at home. There is a washer and dryer and all bed linens and towels are provided.

Other things to note
Black Point Cottage has a maximum occupancy limit of 8 guests. Any more – even if it is visitors for the day, must be approved prior to arrival.

There is a set of towels (Beach, Bath, Hand & two face cloths) supplied for each guest. A washer and dryer is available and can be used if you need to refresh the linens.

There is high speed internet at the cottage but no satellite or cable TV service. The television is for watching movies only. The system is VHS and there is a small supply of movies. The cottage is pet friendly.

Two of the bedrooms, a bathroom and the laundry room are located on the second floor. The staircase is a spiral staircase.

At the very end of the Ragged Island Peninsula on 70 acres of stunning oceanfront, the immediate surroundings are magnificent. It is a short walk back down the road to a sandy beach and a warm water swimming spot known locally as the 'deep hole'. Within a 15 – 20 minute drive are the beautiful beaches of Lockeport and Louis Head.

Lockeport is the closest little town (20 minute dive). There you will find a town market, some restaurants, liquor store, a playground and 3 beautiful beaches: Crescent Beach, Freddy’s Beach and Col. Locke’s Beach. Lockeport also hosts a number of festivals: a charming small-town Canada Day celebration; a music festival and called Harmony Bazaar and a Sea Derby.

Shelburne (30 minute drive) is the largest town in the vicinity and has a beautiful unspoiled harbour front, a fascinating museum district, fine dining and family restaurants, a performance theatre, grocery shop, liquor store and a craft beer brewery (Boxing Rock Brewery). Shelburne also has a number of festivals throughout the year. Founders Days in July is a popular event as is the Whirligig Festival in September.

Liverpool, Lunenburg, Chester and Mahone Bay are both within easy travel distances. It is a 2-hour drive to Halifax International Airport and 1.5 hours to the ferry terminal in Yarmouth.
