Your guide to West Palm Beach

All About West Palm Beach

Luxury cars and palm trees line the wide streets of West Palm Beach in Southern Florida, sister city to Palm Beach across the Lake Worth Lagoon. The city is blessed with warm, sunny weather all year round and easy access to the Atlantic Ocean’s sandy beaches. West Palm Beach and the surrounding area have developed a lively arts scene over the past few decades, and the Norton Museum of Art draws people from all over the region to admire its American, Chinese, and European art collections. Museums and local galleries aren’t the only place where visual arts flourish. Head to the colourful Pineapple Grove Arts District in nearby Delray Beach to spend a morning admiring the murals covering the sides of the buildings.

Locals and visitors alike congregate at Rosemary Square, in the city’s downtown, a Mediterranean-themed outdoor shopping mall packed with restaurants and boutiques, where you’ll also come across live entertainment. Grab an iced latte and relax on the mall’s outdoor pavilion to bask in Florida’s beautiful weather.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in West Palm Beach

Florida’s southeast coast is known across North America for its warm, sunny winters, which draw snowbirds from northern provinces and states. Moderate temperatures, dryer heat, and quieter beaches make spring a good time to visit West Palm Beach. The weather is equally comfortable in the fall as it is in the spring, but this is hurricane season, which lasts until the end of November, so you’ll want to check the weather reports before traveling. In July and August, temperatures can get quite muggy in the afternoons, but that doesn’t deter people from seeking out West Palm Beach houses.

Top things to do in West Palm Beach

Delray Beach

Delray Beach, only 20 minutes away from West Palm Beach, is one of the only places in the country where the town’s downtown core is connected to a coastal beach. Meander through the eclectic shops and the Pineapple Grove Arts District before heading to the municipal beach to relax on rented beach chairs under a big sun umbrella.

Norton Museum of Art

This West Palm Beach art museum has an impressive collection of American art pieces, including paintings and sculptures that range from the 1700s to the 1960s, with an emphasis on the early 1900s. You’ll also find a collection of Chinese art pieces that include a 3,200-year-old dragon-shaped bronze wine ewer. The museum’s impressive European collection spans the Renaissance, Impressionist, and Modernist eras.

Flagler Museum

The Flagler Museum, just across the lagoon in Palm Beach, is a 100,000-square-foot mansion with 75 rooms that started as a private residence for an oil baron. It was built in 1902 during the United States’ so-called Gilded Age, and every square inch drips in opulence. An audio tour provides insight into the construction of the rooms on the first and second floor of the building. The grounds and the pavilion are also open to the public.
