Of all of the hundreds of vacation spots along Florida’s 1,000 miles of coastline, Clearwater Beach is one not to miss. Just west of Tampa in the city of Clearwater, Clearwater Beach sits on a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico. Across the Clearwater Memorial Causeway is downtown Clearwater, with its palm-tree-lined streets, landscaped sidewalks, and historic architecture. The city offers a wide variety of restaurants and wine bars, and a historic theatre that houses live music throughout the year.

Known as the Sunshine State, Florida is renowned for its white-sand beaches and beautiful year-round weather. That said, Clearwater is most comfortable outside of the summer months, when the heat and humidity peak. The city’s high season is spring, from March to May, when the days warm up and the humidity is at its lowest. A winding beachside walking and cycling path makes it easy to see all of the views that Clearwater Beach has to offer. At just under one kilometre, this path is the ideal length for a gentle stroll while offering clear views of the Gulf. Dining options are dotted along the walkway, which connects to the popular Pier 60.

Fishing

The fishing at Clearwater Beach is among the best in the state. You can hire a private charter, or simply cast a line into the Gulf from Pier 60. Rent or purchase fishing equipment and bait right on the pier. You can opt for catch and release, or use the fillet table to clean your catch and take it to a local restaurant and have it cooked. Alternatively, renting one of the Clearwater cottages equipped with a kitchen will allow you to serve your seafood exactly the way you want.
