Bancroft's castle was built by General William Bancroft in 1906 atop Gibbet Hill in Groton, Massachusetts. Since 2000, the "castle" and trails became part of Groton's protected open space and was opened to the public Beautiful walk and view, Scenes from " Little Women" were filmed here
(Sigh) Romance! Walk among the ruins of this 1906 estate. Not much is left, but this "castle" feels like a hidden treat. Park your car on the side of the road and take a very short (but inclined) walk up the hill. The best part? A few more steps up Gibbett Hill offers the most New England view you've seen: a pastoral landscape dotted with cattle. Take a picnic blanket and make an evening of it...or take in the view then hop over to Gibbet Hill Grill for a meal in an upscale barn-like atmosphere.
