Welcome to the Wakefield Art Studio in the Heart of the Village •
Wake up to art-filled walls and floor-to-ceiling views of a breathtaking 60-foot rock wall. Wander through zen-like gardens defined by hand-crafted art fences. In winter, settle by the woodstove in big leather chairs.
An elegant, deeply private sanctuary to help you connect to nature, to yourself
A short stroll to the Gatineau River, local cafés, evening music, and the Gatineau Park's endless trails, where adventure awaits.
The space
“We couldn't believe how beautiful the location was, so peaceful and magical.”
“A charming Studio.”
"The accommodations were extremely comfortable.”
“Peaceful oasis.”
“Radiates peace and creativity."
“A Sanctuary, so peaceful and magical.”
The front of the property is a working portrait studio where I have been photographing the faces of Canada for decades. Your Wakefield Art Suite is located at the back with your own private entrance.
Oh so relaxing sleep under luxurious bedding (goose-down duvet and 760-thread count sheets) in a queen bed. Sink in and enjoy the cozy leather furniture.
Awaiting your arrival: A warm wood fire in the winter. Jasmine tea on the deck in the shadow of the rock-face wall in the summer.
Want to make yourself a simple meal? A microwave, kettle, coffee machine and fridge are at your disposal. But most prefer to savour and enjoy the bounty from the award-winning local chefs/restaurants.
Having won the Grand Prize for Canadian Geographic, for Photo Life International and received a Governor General of Canada Medal for some of my work, I decided to create a safe space where time stood still, where people could recharge and perhaps even find themselves through the portrait/creativity work that I offer. This continues today but even more fully developed with people able to stay here, via Airbnb. Interested in creating with me? Let me know.
Miss Zara (the gentle dog) and I, Helene Anne, will be here to greet you. We so look forward to your visit.

There are 3-4 steps onto the deck to reach your guest suite. The suite itself, the bedroom and bathroom, are all on one floor.
Other things to note
Wakefield is a vibrant artistic and creative village!
Our portrait studio, for example, is a hub for incredible art and creativity.
Within walking distance, you will find fine restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques and during the summer, on Saturday mornings, the popular Farmers' Market where music, art and vegetables intermingle.
Also at the doorstep of the Wakefield Art Studio you can swim, kayak or paddle board in the Gatineau River (bike/board rentals available locally). If your passion is skiing, hiking or biking, the Gatineau Park with trails to delight, all are but a few steps away. Interested in downhill skiing or snow-shoeing? The Vorlage Recreational Centre is just up the street. Yes, your outdoor adventures are limitless. This is a four-season outdoor paradise.
Getting Around:
Wakefield Quebec on the edge of the Gatineau Park, is a tourist destination, 33 kms from Ottawa, Canada’s Capital.
Oh so much to tell you about! There is skating in the forest (Patinage en forêt) in the winter and in summer, Water Maze Adventures at Éco-Odyssée (nearby) and the Nordik Spa just a few km. away. And did I mention the gourmet restaurants? Ask me my favourites...
Do bring your swimsuit as the river is two minutes walk away. But I warn you: the water is cold!
