The space
We’ll be temporarily closed from January 5 to March 15 as we complete exciting upgrades to The Barnfield Suites, including the addition of Cedarwood Elements—our new contrast therapy experience featuring a sauna, cold and warm plunges, and a fireside retreat. Our Guests
The Barnfield Suites are catered to guests who want an easy escape to relax and/or seek adventure. It’s great for couples and romantic getaways, families with children as well as retirees who are looking for a slower pace. Pets are also most welcome! We can accommodate up to 4 people and 2 pets. We do not charge a pet fee!
For wellness seekers, Cedarwood Elements offers a truly elevated Bowen Island contrast therapy experience. This completely private outdoor sanctuary features a stunning electric cedar sauna, a professional-grade cold plunge (which can be warmed to hot-tub temperature), a tranquil fire pit lounge, meditation space, and hammock. Designed for deep rest and renewal, this quiet and pristine setting invites you to unwind, meditate, practice yoga, and reconnect with yourself through mindful, elemental experiences. Cedarwood Elements is included with your stay at The Barnfield Suites and launches mid-March 2026, bringing curated, elevated journeys and contrast therapy to your Bowen Island getaway.

The Indoor Space
Beautifully designed and appointed, The Barnfield Suites is approximately 700 square feet. The entire suite is above ground and occupies the main floor of the architecturally stunning house (so you are not underground!).
Head to the farmers’ market and cook a gourmet meal in the full chef-inspired kitchen with central island. The light-filled home also features a luxurious bathroom and a cozy living room with an ultra comfortable couch. Guests can enjoy complementary high-speed WiFi, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video (with Live TV and Crave / HBO), Disney+ (with Pixar, Marvel, National Geographic and STAR) and AppleTV. You’ll also have your own washer and dryer.
Guests also have access to a complementary Snack Bar with quick meals and snacks and a Beverage Centre stocked with Nespresso coffee, an assortment of teas (loose leaf and bagged), bottled water, carbonated water, juice, pop, and specialty beverages, perfect for enjoying at any time during your stay.
For the most restful sleep, The Barnfield Suites offer 2 experiences and even a pillow menu. The Coast Room (front bedroom) features the world-famous Casper® mattress, sheets and pillows. The Forest Room (back bedroom) features Tempur-Pedic® mattress, crisp linens and memory foam pillows. Both bedrooms feature queen sized beds.

Please note that we follow Airbnb’s enhanced cleaning protocol, which was developed with expert guidance. Here are a few highlights:
- We sanitize high-touch surfaces, down to the doorknob
- We use cleaners and disinfectants approved by global health agencies, and I wear protective gear to help prevent cross-contamination
- We clean each room using extensive cleaning checklists
- We provide extra cleaning supplies, so you can clean as you stay

The Outdoor Space
If you’re looking for naturally stunning and private outdoor spaces, The Barnfield Suites offer several exceptional areas designed for rest, connection, and quiet enjoyment.
The living room opens onto a spacious covered patio with a dining and games table, along with an outdoor Weber BBQ. The entire front yard is for guest use and is both kid- and pet-friendly.
Around the back is what we call Cedarwood, our West Coast outdoor oasis — a peaceful, private space surrounded by natural foliage, rock features, and the sounds of birds and water. This area includes a cedar sauna, cold plunge, outdoor shower, firepit with seating, a dedicated rest area, and a hammock.
Guests may enjoy up to two self-guided contrast therapy circuits per day at Cedarwood, fully private and integrated into their stay.

Contrast therapy at Cedarwood— alternating between heat and cold — supports circulation, recovery, relaxation, and mental clarity. At The Barnfield Suites, guests can enjoy Cedarwood, our private outdoor circuit, at their own pace.
There is no instruction or programming; all amenities are self-guided and available exclusively to registered overnight guests.
Outdoor Amenities Notice: The sauna, cold plunge, and outdoor features are self-guided. Guests are asked to review and sign a Waiver and Terms of Use prior to their stay.

Your Adventures
We provide customized guides for you to enjoy and make the most of your Bowen getaway. Before your trip, we send out a Pre-Arrival Questionnaire that asks about your interests and purpose for your visit. From there, we do our research, speak with local businesses and then provide you with personalized adventures in order for you to get the best ever experience. Whether you’re coming as a single, couple, family with young or older children and even doggies, we have the perfect experiences waiting for you!
From mountain hikes to bird and whale watching to picking all sorts of wild berries, we’ve got it all covered. Some of the more unique experiences we’ve recommended include feeding goslings (baby Canada Geese), watching the fish ladder run in the Fall, sea glass beachcombing, vodka and rye tasting at Snug, sea kayaking / wake boarding with the otters, Yoga on the Pier, sunset picnics on the beach and forest bathing adventures. There’s so much to see and do on Bowen, and not enough time!

Guest access
Guests have full access to the private ground-level suite via a side entrance and may come and go as they like. Registered overnight guests also have exclusive access to Cedarwood, the self-guided outdoor wellness circuit, during their stay.

We highly advise bringing your car and/or bikes. There is parking for up to two vehicles. The Barnfield Suites are located 4 minutes by car or approximately 20 minutes by bike from Snug Cove. Please note the area is hilly; biking is recommended for experienced riders. Walking time is approximately 35 minutes.

BC Transit does not currently service our area. Bowen Island Taxi is available, and additional transportation options continue to expand.

We moved to Bowen Island in the summer of 2019 from Central Lonsdale, North Vancouver. We’ve fallen in love with the island, our home and slower pace of life. We welcome you to The Barnfield Suites and hope you have an amazing and relaxing adventure.

About Our Home
You are staying at The Crestwood, an award-winning home designed and built by Madrona Fine Homes, a developer based locally on Bowen Island. It is certified Built Green Platinum, the highest standard in design and construction for environmentally sensitive developments. Even the wood posts throughout the home are reclaimed from large fir trees originally on this property. Please enjoy both the suite as well as the outdoor living spaces.
