The space
Vashon Island is a perfect place to cocoon ... hunker down... have a bit of a heaven on earth while your place is getting remodeled, or you need your own "inner" remodeling of exploration and personal growth as you focus on what's really important for you...

"close to Seattle, Tacoma, the Key Peninsula... yet feels so far away...."

We encourage you to read the “About” section under “Profile”.

Vashon Island and MiKo’s Guest House have been a haven for solo travelers and couples seeking an intimate connection, or a quiet, contemplative space for creativity and reflection since 2008.

**WE CONTINUE TO EARNED SUPERHOST BONUS with ** 5-STAR rating
MiKo's Guest House re-opened Sept 2020 and gained & maintained Superhost status as soon as allowed. Prior to Airbnb days, MiKo's successfully served guests for more than 6 years; rated #1 on TripAdvisor for Vashon back in the day...

In addition to our "funky, yet charming rural getaway," we offer solo & couples’ retreats, for those wishing to deepen their relationship with self and others. Your host, Karen, is a professional, certified & credentialed relationship, performance, and wellness coach, and offers special coaching packages and retreats for solo guests or couples. Go to InnerCor dot com for details.

Ideal for a 1-person solo trip or 1 couple (due to grandfathered small septic system and only 1 bed: queen-size). Sorry no pets. No children.

This is a special place: quaint, with lots of light, privacy, apple tree, raspberries, strawberries, raspberries, cranapples, and horse chestnuts (during the summer months)... maintained yard, surrounded by tall trees providing privacy from neighbors and me, the owner occupying the main house on the 1/3 acre of property, (situated 40-feet away, separated by bamboo fencing to ensure privacy).

Includes hi-speed Wi-Fi (at 120 Mbps, you can take video calls and stream videos for both of you), water, PSE electricity, garbage & recycling curb-side service.

Plenty of seasoned wood for the wood-burning stove or outdoor fire pits. Weber BBQ with utensils, charcoal, and skewers.

Enjoy the island's art scene. Music and theatrical performances, special documentaries, stand-up comedy. live streaming of National Theatre at Home and Metropolitan Opera --all at our iconic cinema, Vashon Theatre! Additional live events occur at various venues sprinkled across the island: from The Coop, to Sugar Shack, to Open Space for Arts & Culture to Vashon Centre for the Arts... as well as spontaneous pop-up venues! Plenty of organic foods/farm stands, great, cozy coffee houses and roasteries, nurseries, and the famed Country Store with Little Bird to get your green thumb inspired, along with bookstores, a fantastic library (we're part of King County), and enough trails to walk to feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, with beaches to stroll along to enjoy the sunrise on one side of the island, and sunset on the other, running into the friendliest people you'll ever want to meet!

Additional information:

1.**Our grandfathered septic system offers a fully flushing toilet. HOWEVER we ask that you refrain from disposing TP or baby wipes or anything else down the toilet except for "what come from your body." We do have a handheld bidet sprayer that guests love for that "extra clean" feeling, and container with lid, lined with plastic for your soiled TP.

2.** No smoking either inside or anywhere on premises** (Vaping outside okay.)

3. Fully furnished studio (curtains to separate living space from sleeping area) with fully-equipped kitchen: from sheets to towels to plates, cutlery, every kitchen utensil you could want, spices, books, DVDs, games, puzzles, playing cards, art on the walls, to outdoor furniture (in season).

4. Our island's only laundromat has recently reopened with brand-new, high-end machines.

5. We have a portable, standing adjustable "desk on wheels" for all your writing needs.

6. Four (4) grocery stores to choose from: Vashon Thriftway, Vashon Market IGA, Minglement Natural Food Store, and Harbor Mercantile in Burton.

7. We have a yoga mat for your use in the outdoor Meditation Hut (weather permitting), or inside on the carpeted living room floor.

8. We offer special 'day use' and discounted rates for the following amenities:
1. eBikes - to get up those Vashon hills! (Check out Vashon Bikes)
2. Kayaks (10% off at Vashon Adventures - CLOSED off season)
3. Saltwater Lap Pool w/ hot tub (Vashon Athletic Club - VAC)
4. Dry Sauna (VAC)
5. Full Gym (VAC)

At the time of your booking, please acknowledge your compliance of our
3 main rules:

1. No smoking.
2. No TP, baby wipes, Kleenex or anything other than bodily fluids down our fully functional toilet
3. Please rinse off prior to using our "clothing optional" hot tub

We look forward to welcoming you to some much needed respite, disconnecting from your usual daily life, and indulging in some "me" time (or "we" time)!

Guest access
I like to "meet & greet" our guests, and provide a mini tour upon your arrival, so please "text us when you're on the boat" so we can arrange to be here.

Alternatively, we've made some "informational instructional Loom videos" to send you.

You can enjoy access to the area surrounding the cabin -- including the outdoor seating areas (weather dependent!), meditation hut, path to the hot tub, and park right next to the arbour's entrance (at the end of the driveway next to the sheds.)

When you are "out and about," I may be gardening around the property. Otherwise, I’ll leave you to your privacy.

I, as owner, live in the main house on the property so both of us from share access to the hot tub between hours of 7am - 10 pm. Texting one another to ensure each has the privacy desired has proven successful.

Other things to note
Due to our grandfathered septic system, we do ask that you refrain from disposing TP or baby wipes or anything else down the toilet except for "what comes out of your body." We do have a handheld bidet sprayer that guests love for that "extra clean feeling", and a container with a lid for your soiled TP.

NOTE: the toilet is a fully modern, flushing toilet. (Not a compost toilet.)

Neighbourhood highlights

We welcome visitors to our little island of 11k residents where we have every kind of artist, music, dance, theatre, world class venues, dogs, chickens, horses, farm animals, interesting (and some famous!) people, organic/vegan/vegetarian/meat-lovers restaurants and farm stands dotting our rural roads; along with gardens, farms, flowers, parades and even our own opera company! The island is a gathering place with several coffee houses, art & theatre venues, and driving or biking around provides an opportunity for endless water views and sounds of birds and ferry boats to enjoy! MiKo's Guest House is tucked away from the road -- overlooking 10 acres of pasture, so you can often hear the horses in the distance or the squirrels scurrying along the fence line or across the cabin's roof... and the frogs mating songs at night.

We have T-shirts that say: "Vashon Island: a bunch of quirky, dog walking, horseback riding, musical, gluten-free, individualistic, non-GMO, organic gardening, isolations, weed smoking, rainbow loving, environmentalist, WSF (ferry)-dependent, artistic, whale watching, bridgeless, quilt-making neighbours. Keep Vashon Weird." (And yet, we are more than all of those things, and have residents who lean to the Right as well as the Left and all points in between, have an active Sportsman club with card-carrying NRA members, and a seasonable hunting season. Essentially, we are a bit of a microcosm of Americana, in unity and in division; and appreciate passionate debates on all sides of an issue. In short, we welcome everyone!)

Houses line both sides of MiKo's along Beall Road, where most are on 5 acre lots; some on smaller parcels like mine (1/3 of an acre).

No street lights to disturb your night-time viewing, so enjoy the moon and stars!

You can hear the occasional dog bark when deer are romping around in our densely wooded areas, (neighbors on all sides have dogs--as most islanders do). I have neither dogs nor a cat, as I enjoy providing habitat for our various birds, especially:
American Robin (45% frequency)
Song Sparrow (42%)
American Crow (35%)
Dark-eyed Junco (33%)
and of course, Hummingbirds who love to feed off all my flowers!

Please do not feed the raccoons that may come up to the sliding glass door on the deck looking for food. :)

And please *do not* feed the neighbor's horse, when Gypsy occasionally leans over the fence.
