The Coulee Yurt interior revolves around a wood burning stove that sits under the toono (overhead dome) of the Yurt. It has an eating area with a table and chairs for up to six, a sitting area, a food preparation area, a queen bed, two twin beds (one is a day bed). It has high speed internet access. The covered outdoor cooking area has a gas barbecue and a water system with a stainless steel sink. See note about bathrooms further down..
This glampsite is truly unique and we hope you enjoy it!
The space
The Coulee Yurt glampsite has a 22ft diameter Yurt made in Mongolia on a complete section of land that overlooks a 200 acre Alberta coulee from the west side, making for an amazing view! It rents as a complete unit that sleeps up to 5 with an outdoor bathroom and cooking area. The Yurt is off-grid, with a solar power system, a propane gas BBQ and water heater, an indoor wood stove, outdoor fire pit, and high speed wifi. NOTE: The site has an municipality approved outhouse, but our home is 2-3 km away from the Yurt and we have a full bathroom in our shop, available by appointment only to yurt guests who would like a hot shower and a flush toilet. We are happy to have you use it. See the pictures for visual details.
We are 3 hours NE of Calgary, 1.5 hours E of Red Deer, and 2.5 hours SE of Edmonton.
Guest access
Guests have full use and access to the whole glampsite that is enclosed by a rail fence to keep the cattle out if they are grazing in the area. Guests also have access to the coulees and trails for hiking or mountain biking and the rest of the more flat land on the section of land (640 acres) for hiking and biking.
Other things to note
Note: Every fall (edit: the water has been drained for the winter as of November 12), the outdoor water system will have to be drained so that it does not freeze. This will usually be some time around the end of October or beginning of November, depending on the weather. At this point, you will have to rely on the large bottles of purified water inside the yurt and the large pot that we supply that can be put on the wood burning stove for warm water, for a winter camping situation.
Our main goal is to provide unforgettable glamping experiences for our guests. We wanted to create glampsites that offer peace and quiet, and an escape into nature suitable for families of all shapes and sizes.
These glampsites are perfect for stargazing, watching the sunrise/sunset, hiking, mountain biking, and watching the northern lights!
Glamping is a blend of the words glamorous and camping. Glamping is a style of camping where guests are treated to some unexpected amenities, like a comfortable bed, on or off grid electricity, running/heated water, indoor plumbing, or high speed internet.
We call our short term holiday accommodations glampsites and we aspire to be the home of the "Low Density Glamping Guarantee". This means that all of our glampsites are guaranteed to be very private, where your view of other glampsites is obscured by trees or is a minimum of 400 m (0.4 km or ¼ of a mile) away.
